When
Rev. Bro. Thomas visited Los Angeles in 2002,
a team of Old Boys from the San Francisco Bay
Area went to Southern California to play a friendly
soccer match with the local chapter. They enjoyed
the match so much that a return game in San Francisco
was planned. Bro. Thomas saw the common bond among
the Old Boys and suggested a more organized event
involving more chapters on a regularly basis.
Mr. George Law '66, then San Francisco Bay Area
Chapter President, took on the challenge and spearheaded
the organization of the first North American LSCOBA
Soccer Tournament. On October 12-13, 2002, the
Soccer Tournament was held at Burlingame, California,
and three chapters - Southern California, Vancouver
and San Francisco - participated. Los Angeles
took home the first championship. Other Old Boys
chapters around the world subsequently took turns
to host the Soccer Tournament annually, and scope
has expanded since to include other reunion activities.
